The Creation Care and Changing Climate Task Force was established by the Montana Synod Council subsequent to the approval of a 2019 Montana Synod Assembly Resolution to “Care for Creation and Respond to the Changing Climate”. The purpose of the task force is to assist the
synod and its congregations by developing and presenting meaningful and measurable mitigation and adaptation actions that, when implemented by the congregations, will take better care of creation and those who live in it. The task force is guided by the idea that through our baptisms, God brings us into the divine plan for all of creation. We are equipped by the Spirit, then, to care for others and the world that God has made. Whole-hearted, intentional stewardship of God’s creation is a serious aspect of what it means to be a follower of Christ, doing God’s work with our hands. |

Becoming a Creation-Care Congregation
![]() The Creation Care Pilot Project was initiated by the Montana Synod Creation Care and Changing Climate task force and has been led by task force member Brian Koukol at his home congregation of Hope Lutheran in Bozeman. Brian used the Lutherans Restoring Creation (LRC) online materials as a guide and the detailed Self Organizing Kit from the website (lutheransrestoringcreation.com) to create an official Creation Care Team at Hope Lutheran. The Creation Care Team has been active over the last year in obtaining congregational approval for a Care-for-Creation Covenant and preparing and implementing an action plan that includes initiatives in the areas of Worship, Education, Buildings & Grounds, Public Witness and Policy Advocacy.

Since the changing climate is an issue that affects our youths' future, we wanted to recognize and include their thoughts on the matter. The Task Force has created a survey of 6-7 questions directed toward middle schoolers and high schoolers.
It takes only a minute or two to complete, and it can remain anonymous, or you can share your name and contact information: https://forms.gle/mMAEauvBqmNAWcGw5. Our hope is to find out ways that we can better serve the youth in our church and care for God's creation together. Thank you.
